Red-tailed hawk nest

We spotted this nest a while back. It's pretty far back from the road and won't be visible for much longer as the trees become fuller. This morning I was able to get a much better view from a different approach. I should note that I always stay very far back so as not to disturb them. Click on picture to enlarge.

Gold Finch Bonanza

On my walk this morning I spotted many a gold finch enjoying the lovely, crisp morning. I enjoyed them, too. Click on picture to enlarge.

Nest Building

Yes, it's that time. I observed a robin this evening busy gathering nest materials. Click on pictures to enlarge.

Sunday wetlands walk

It was not the best light for pictures today, but a very pleasant walk--including meeting a couple of fun, friendly dogs, a large husky who shook out his wet fur all over the camera and the pit bull who gave me a muddy handshake. Click on pictures to enlarge.

Blue-gray gnatcatcher

I think he is a blue-gray gnatcatcher, but I'm not positive. Click on picture to enlarge.

It really is spring?

On this cloudy, cool day, I've been going through some of the pictures from this time last year in anticipation of the soon-to-arrive. Click on pictures to enlarge.

White-headed cardinal and flicker

The white-headed cardinal continues to visit, as well as the flickers. I am still hoping for nests in our backyard. Click on pictures to enlarge.

Great Horned Owl

I was very lucky to see a great horned owl nest this morning. This parent was being chased by crows and hanging out in the bushes near the nest. Click on picture to enlarge.

Isn't She Lovely!

Two Eaglets and One Visiting Juvenile

When I visited the nest this morning, there was a juvenile eagle on a tree nearby. One of the parents was calling out and seemed very disturbed. I assumed he/she was calling for the other to come and run off the intruder. I didn't see the eaglet and was a bit worried. I hoped she/he was keeping his/her head down in case of trouble (I've seen the young ones do this when the parents seem agitated). So, we went back later this afternoon. Not only was everything fine, we discovered there are two eaglets in the nest! Click on pictures to enlarge.

Red-winged Blackbird

I love listening to their calls! Click on picture to enlarge.

Tree Swallows and Bluebirds

The tree swallows were very interested in the bluebird boxes, but this little guy wasn't having it. I caught these pictures while I watched him flying from box to box, chasing away the tree swallows. Click on pictures to enlarge.

Rabbit Prayer

We've seen this rabbit in our yard and around the neighborhood lately. I am fairly certain she is not wild. I don't know if someone dumped her, she escaped from somewhere, or someone has been letting her out, but every time I see her, I worry about her.

Dear Rabbit,
I pray that you will be safe
I pray that no one will harm you
and you will find your way
wild or at home
I pray that you will have plenty to eat
I pray that you will have a warm and comfortable place to rest

Eaglet Update

We still can't see much of him/her, but we saw a little wing action today. Click on picture to enlarge.

Flickers in love

We watched these two for a long time yesterday evening as they bobbed and danced. They're quite a pair, and so beautiful. Click on pictures to enlarge.
